Title: Mortgage Insurance Specialist (Non – LO – No Consumer Contact)

The Loan Services Mortgage Insurance Specialist exists for daily, weekly and monthly reviews and reconciliations of Mortgage Insurance and Private Mortgage Insurance accounts. Ensuring requirements for the termination/cancellation of MI/PMI is handled according to requirements set forth by FHA, USDA and The Home Owner’s Protection Act (HPA).


  • Reviewing borrower requests for early termination of MI/PMI and mailing written responses.

  • Terminating the MI/PMI from the VMF servicing system when applicable.

  • Requesting the termination and cancellation of MI/PMI through FHA, USDA and private mortgage insurance companies.

  • Reconciling reports from FHA, USDA and private mortgage companies for premiums due to the servicing system.

  • Reviewing daily reports for paid out loans.

  • Communicating with mortgage insurance companies.

  • Working closely with Research, Loan Services Audit and Accounting on escrow payment adjustments, the payment of MI/PMI premiums and ensuring the VMF is compliant with laws and regulations set forth by FHA, USDA and the HPA.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • Experience working with escrow, or queries would be beneficial.

  • Proficient in Excel.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with internal departments via phone, email and fax.

  • Ability to manage multiple duties with a sense of urgency.

  • Great attention to detail, organizational and follow-up skills.

  • Ability to work in a team environment.


  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time.

  • Constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a telephone, calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.

  • 90% communication methods completed over the phone. Must be able to exchange accurate information at all times.

  • Ability to identify and assess account status and determine appropriate process.

  • Constantly works in an indoor temperature controlled, sealed window office environment.
