The Tax Research Specialist exists to research and review tax data on all VMF loans.


  • Reviews legal documents, closing documents, and any other pertinent information to research, identify, and confirm VMF’s property of interest.

  • Assists in the registration of new homes with the respective taxing authorities and following up on the accounts until registration has been completed.

  • Sets up new vendors in VMF’s servicing system.

  • Reads and reviews property assessments.

  • Communicates frequently with tax/local government offices, attorneys, and various internal departments to obtain information.

  • Processes customer requests, completes customer correspondence, and conducts tax research for NOW loans and loan modifications.

  • Ensures information on tax bills are accurate, updates VMF Servicing System accordingly.

  • Ensures the appropriate parties have reviewed and decisioned the loan for tax payment, and research is completed quickly to avoid excess penalties and interest.

  • Performance will be measured on productivity and accuracy standards.

  • Exhibits high level of judgment and discretion.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and other applications.

  • Great attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently via phone, email and person to person.

  • Capable of gathering facts accurately, analyze causes, evaluate alternate solutions and arrive at sound conclusions on action to be taken.

  • Ability to manage multiple and/or conflicting responsibilities.

  • Ability to work in a team environment.


  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time.

  • Constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a telephone, calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.

  • 90% communication methods completed over the phone. Must be able to exchange accurate information at all times.

  • Ability to identify and assess account status and determine appropriate process.

  • Constantly works in an indoor temperature controlled, sealed window office environment.
